XANTO

XANTHUS is a 2019 sculpture by Paolo Mayol, cast in bronze with the lost-wax technique.

Xanthus was the name of the invincible horse of Achilles, a semi-god and hero of the Greek mythology, whose fate was sung nearly 3000 years ago in the oldest epic poem attributed to Homer. A gift of the god Poseidon to Peleus, Xanthus was entrusted by him to his young son Achilles, who was leaving Greece to join the Trojan war. Indomitable by anyone who was not Achilles himself, Xanthus was splendid and unbeatable, faster and stronger than any other horse. In the momentum of the race, Xanthus is seen here crossing the circle of time as if he were stepping through the frame of a mirror. By looking and recognizing himself in the mirror, he can can go beyond it.

The Artist associates this mythological horse to the symbol of a man-made machine, perfect and very fast, formidable and unbeatable, as Maserati is: always appreciated and desired throughout the world. The tribute to this legendary and more than ever alive Car is reminded by the brand of the trident that decorates the horse's chest, combining the past represented by Xanthus and the future awaiting the Maserati!
